Another Top 10 Finish in World Amateur Golf Ranking Event at Azata Golf Club

At just 15 years old, rising golfing star Louis Rickett delivered another standout performance at the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event held at Azata Golf Club on the Toro Pro Tour last week.

Played from 19th – 21st February 2025 Louis competed alongside professional male golfers and other top amateur players, Rickett finished in a remarkable tied 8th place, his highest WAGR finish to date, and was ranked as the 4th best amateur in the event. Louis was the youngest competitor in the field.

Rickett, a proud member of both Oswestry Golf Club and The Astbury Golf Club in Shropshire, proved his golfing prowess on a tough course in Spain.

Azata Golf Club is renowned for its challenging and narrow layout, and this year’s event was no exception. The course’s front nine proved particularly tricky, with three of the hardest holes coming in the opening stretch, testing players’ strategy and mental toughness from the get-go.

Despite these early challenges, Rickett demonstrated impressive composure, consistently playing well on the back nine throughout the tournament producing 9 birdies on the back nine over the course of the week. His skillful approach to the course was evident, especially on the final day when he produced a stunning sequence of three consecutive birdies on holes 9, 10, and 11. This birdie streak helped propel him into a solid finish among the top players, securing his spot in tied 8th place overall, marking this his highest finish to date in a WAGR event.

The conditions on days two and three also presented a unique challenge. Strong winds played a significant factor, with gusty conditions making the already difficult Azata course even more demanding

However, Rickett held his ground, showcasing his ability to adapt and maintain focus under pressure and changing conditions. His calmness and resilience in the face of windy conditions allowed him to stay competitive and deliver consistent rounds of 74 each day.

Next up for Louis is the start of the season in England in April where he plans to tee it up at the Welsh Mens Amateur and Faldo Series at Brocket Hall.
