Louis Rickett from Shrewsbury, Shropshire is one of the counties leading junior golfers and has been county champion twice. He is a member at Oswestry Golf Club and The Astbury.
This week he participated in a World Amateur Golf Ranking Event (WAGR) in Malta.
Aged only 14 he competed against players aged 21 and under including many National Team players from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland.
The Royal Malta Junior International consisted of 102 players from across the world, many having plus handicaps.
After round one Louis was leading the Royal Malta Junior International shooting an impressive score of 3 under.
Conditions became tough for round 2 and 3 with winds of 40mph. This resulted in scoring becoming much harder on the Royal Malta Golf Course that is tight in nature and has small narrow greens.
Despite the change in conditions Louis hit three birdies on the trot in the last three holes of round 2 leaving him in 7th place going into round 3. Louis held his nerve in round 3 eventually finishing in the top 10 carding scores of 65, 75 and 77 over the 3 days.
This is an impressive achievement for Louis as he was one of the youngest participants of a strong and much older international field.
Next stop is the Midlands Under 16 Championship at Hawkstone Park in Shropshire next week.
