Shropshire golf sensation Louis Rickett has continued his blistering start to the 2026 season with a hard-fought top-10 finish at the highly competitive Welsh Men’s Amateur Championship. Competing against an elite field of over 100 amateur golfers from across the UK, the 16-year-old proved his ability to hold his own in the most demanding of championship conditions.
Played from April 23rd to 26th at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, the four-day tournament is widely recognized as one of the premier men’s amateur events in the UK and serves as a key counting event for the England Golf Mens Order of Merit.
Stretching out from the Championship tees, the coastal course provided a fierce test. Over the first two days of the tournament, the field was battered by brutal 30 mph winds that made scoring incredibly difficult. The severe weather took such a heavy toll that not a single player managed to shoot under par on the opening day, a testament to exactly how tough the conditions were.
Despite the gruelling start, Rickett dug deep to weather the storm and stay in contention. As the winds finally relented over the weekend, the newly World Amateur Golf Ranked (WAGR) teenager seized his opportunity to climb the leaderboard. Demonstrating excellent composure, Rickett carded a superb 1-over-par in round three, followed by a brilliant 1-under-par in the fourth and final round.
This weekend surge secured him a well-earned 10th place finish in a field packed with seasoned, top-tier men’s amateurs, further cementing his reputation as one of the most in form junior golfers in the country right now.
Following a whirlwind month that includes two Faldo Series victories, achieving a World Amateur Golf Ranking, and now a top-10 finish at a flagship men’s national championship, Rickett is taking a well-earned two-week break from competition to rest and catch up on his college work.
His next major test will come on May 12th, when he travels to Droitwich Golf Club to compete in the regional qualifying event for the Brabazon Trophy—the prestigious English Men’s Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
